HCTC Libraries provide library and information services, along with resources, in support of the mission and goals of the college.

Cellphone Charging Stations
We have charging towers at both library locations to charge your cellphone or tablet while on campus.
The charging towers have charge ports for both Android and Apple devices.
Just plug in and charge up!*
*Library staff are NOT responsible for watching patrons’ personal items.

*If not returned at end of the semester, a library hold will be placed on their college account and they will not be able to register for classes or receive a transcript until the matter is resolved.

HCTC students can see a list of their currently charged items and ask for one online due date renewal (before items become overdue) by signing into their patron accounts in Primo by logging in with their KCTCS email and password.
Computers & Wi-Fi
Students, in addition to accessing online library resources, may use HCTC Library computers to do their homework assignments, online course work and access their college email. They must have their KCTCS username and password to log on to a computer.
All KCTCS and HCTC computer-use policies apply.
Students need to bring a USB flash drive with them to save their work or they can also use their linked OneDrive account.
Free Wi-Fi is available in both HCTC Libraries. Just log on to the 'KCTCS-STUDENT-GUEST' network with your personal device.
Copying, Printing, Scanning & Faxing*
HCTC Libraries have coin-operated black-and-white photocopiers.
All HCTC and UCM students receive 500 pages in FREE printing each semester. To add additional pages, students can purchase a Printer Top Up Card at their campus Business Office.
Patrons can scan documents into PDF format to be sent electronically via email. See library staff for assistance with this function.
Fax services are available. Please ask for assistance at the circulation desk.

Document Delivery (Completely Online Students Only)
If you are taking all your courses completely online, you are eligible to request residential delivery of physical HCTC library items.

ID Badges
Students can come to the Stephens or Lees College Campus Libraries to obtain a photo ID badge.
These IDs can also be used in place of registering for a library card and are required for Allied Health program clinicals.
Instructional Requests
The goal of each instruction session is to help students learn how to successfully navigate and use the library's resources. Library instruction demonstrates print and electronic research materials, evaluation of sources and hands-on practice.
Our librarians are committed to promoting the library's philosophy of service through effective and innovative library instruction.
Students may request one-on-one or small group (5 or fewer people) library research and citation instructional sessions.
Please try to schedule your session at least one week in advance.
Interlibrary Loan
Did you know that you may request books, copies of journal and magazine articles, etc., which are not available at the HCTC Libraries? Find out more about our Interlibrary Loan Service.
Library Closing Info
HCTC Libraries will typically only be closed, or on a delayed opening, when all HCTC campuses are closed or delayed.
Any cancellations or closing affecting only HCTC Libraries will be shared on our "About Us" page.
You can be notified of all HCTC campus delays, closings and campus safety alerts by signing up for SNAP alerts.

Recommend a Book, Magazine or Audiovisual
Use the Recommend a Book or Other Resource form to place a request for a specific resource to be added to the library.
Registration for a Library Card
All first-time patrons are registered and issued a free library card.
Your library card must be presented each time you check out library items.
To apply for a card, you must provide your name, KCTCS ID number, mailing address and phone number.
Replacement cards cost $3.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for or later uses a photocopy or reproductions for purposed in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copyright order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

SNAP is the official Safety Notification Alert Process for KCTCS.

Technology Discounts
OFFICE 365 PRO PLUS IS NOW FREE TO KCTCS STUDENTS
All KCTCS students who are currently enrolled in a course are eligible to install the full version of Office 365 Pro Plus on up to 5 devices for free. This includes PC, Mac, Apple tablets & phones, and Android tablets & phones. The software will continue to work as long as you are enrolled in at least one class at a KCTCS college.
KCTCS also offers students discounts with Apple, AT&T Wireless and Dell.

Tutoring Services
HCTC Libraries offer help with writing assignments and source citation daily.
Contact the Stephens Library at 606-487-3304 or the Lees College Campus Library at 606-487-3568 for more information.

Wireless/Mobile Printing
Any HCTC student using the 'KCTCS-STUDENT-GUEST' network on their personal laptop or mobile device while in the library can use mobile printing to print to the library’s main printer wirelessly!

VHS/DVDs checkouts by faculty for all Videos/DVDs is limited to one week.

Embedded Librarian Service
The embedded librarian is a service designed to support online, web-enhanced, or hybrid students by providing access to library services and resources through Blackboard. For more information on adding an embedded librarian to your course, please contact Evelyn Hudson (ext. 73147).
Equipment
Equipment available for checkout includes laptops, laptop projectors, overhead projectors, screens, easels, cassette/CD players, microfilm/fiche readers and more. Equipment is limited in quantity and has a limited-time checkout.

Library Instruction / Tour Requests
Library instruction is an important service that supports the teaching mission of the college, promotes lifelong learning and enhances critical thinking and information literacy skills. Our librarians are committed to promoting the library's philosophy of service through effective and innovative library instruction.
The goal of each instruction session is to help students learn how to successfully navigate and use the library's resources. Library instruction classes incorporate the demonstration of print and electronic research materials, evaluation of sources and hands-on practice. Walk-in tours of the library can also be scheduled. These tours direct students to the location of service areas and specific collections in the library.
Faculty may use the Instructional Session Request form to request library instructional sessions and library tours for their classes.
Recommend a Book, Magazine or Audiovisual
Use the Recommend a Book or Other Resource form to place a request for a specific resource to be added to the library.

Both HCTC Libraries have Children's, Juvenile and Young Adult level print materials, along with Graphic Novel collections.
Children ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult while in HCTC Libraries*.

Community patrons may use library computers on a temporarily assigned basis.
Please show photo ID at the circulation desk to receive a temporary user log-in account to use a library computer.
All KCTCS and HCTC computer-use policies apply.
