ED's mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.

As mandated by Kentucky law, the Kentucky Board of Education develops and adopts the regulations that govern Kentucky's 173 public school districts and the actions of the Kentucky Department of Education. Department officials follow board guidelines as they both lead and serve public elementary, middle and high schools.

Adult illiteracy is a barrier to every major challenge facing Kentucky. The ripple effect of the education level of the Commonwealth’s adult population extends beyond the individual to families, communities and our state-at-large. Kentucky Adult Education serves adults with the most basic literacy needs to those preparing for college and career.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) is a public corporation and governmental agency and instrumentality of the Commonwealth established in 1966 to improve students' access to higher education. To that end, KHEAA administers several financial aid programs and disseminates information about higher education opportunities.
