Literacy Kits

What is a literacy kit?

HCTC Libraries Literacy Kits

Each literacy kit contains books, active learning opportunities, and helpful hints and tips for teachers, aspiring teachers, and caretakers to help foster reading comprehension and engagement. 

The literacy kits can be used in the library by caretakers or checked out for up to one week by HCTC students enrolled in an education or interdisciplinary early childhood education program.

There are six kits created around 6 themes and recommended age groups:

  • Community Helpers (ages 0-5)
  • Colors & Shapes (ages 0-5)
  • Multicultural Families & Friends (ages 3-8)
  • Exploring the Ocean (ages 6-10)
  • Exploring Space (ages 7-12)
  • Creative Writing (ages 7-12)

Where can I find the literacy kits?

Literacy kits are available at the Stephens Library at the Hazard Campus of Hazard Community and Technical College.
