FYE Library Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to locate library resources best suited to their information need.

  • Use the LCC Classification (reference posters located on shelf ends) to locate a resource on the shelves.
  • Use the online library catalog to locate a resource.
  • Locate a database which matches their information need.
  • Utilize search strategies in the databases.
  • Identify aspects of an article which makes it scholarly or popular and credible or non-credible.
  • Locate career resources in the databases and on the web (career assessments, resume builders, job application assistance, occupational statistics, laws and regulations, and job boards).

Students will be able to use information ethically.

  • Locate citation resources.
  • Accurately and consistently cite sources.
  • Understand Fair Use practices.

About HCTC Libraries

HCTC Libraries' resources are made available to all Hazard Community and Technical College campus locations as well as to Distance Learning students. Our friendly, dedicated staff are available to assist. We are open to the community as well as HCTC students, staff, and faculty. Our Stephens Library located on the Hazard Campus is a selective federal depository for government documents, most of which are circulating.
