More than 480,000 deaths in the United States each year is attributable to cigarette smoking. These deaths are divided between:

Money saving life hacks: tips and tricks for keeping more of your paycheck in your pocket. Create a budget spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. Excel has pre-formatted budget spreadsheets to track personal finances, just plug in your income and expenses. Keep your receipts. Hold on to receipts to track where, what, and how often you shop. Staying money aware is half the battle. Notice you buy something frequently? Consider buying it in bulk. Carry cash. Using cash instead of your debit or credit card may help you to stay aware of your spending habits. It can be easy to overspend when we can’t see the immediate consequence of that purchase on our finances. Set up auto-pay. Setting up auto-pay online can help keep your bills paid on time and prevent delinquent bills from harming your credit. Some companies even offer discounts for setting up online and auto-pay services on your monthly bill. Put something in a savings account monthly. Treat your savings account like a bill! Earmark that money as a nonnegotiable bill to avoid the temptation of spending it on specialty coffee, video games, or other non-necessities.

HCTC Student Clubs & Organizations

The President's Student Ambassadors consists of a small group of students dedicated to working closely with Admissions, Advancement and the Office of the President representing HCTC in a variety of capacities. Students will serve as an exemplary role model for our student body, college and community through various service learning projects. By becoming a Student Ambassador, students are signifying their willingness to serve HCTC and support the goals and mission of our college while having fun at the same time.

Application Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled at HCTC as a full-time or part-time student
  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0

Program Requirements:

  • Required attendance at least one leadership seminar per semester.
  • Required to lead one community service project per year.
  • Participation in a minimum of 5 college sponsored events per semester.
  • Required to participate in 2 recruitment events per semester.
  • Required to attend a one day training session.

Application Process:

  • Complete and submit an application
  • Submit two reference letters (This can be an employer, teacher, coach, etc.)
  • Participate in the interview process

The Criminal Justice Club

  • The Criminal Justice Club is affiliated with the national organization of American Correctional Association (ACA) and consists of criminal justice students attending HCTC or EKU Hazard Campus. The purpose of the Criminal Justice Club are to support the goals of improving the profession of corrections and juvenile justice, promote increased knowledge of correctional and juvenile justice systems, and provide a means of communication among persons having an interest in corrections and juvenile justice.

HCTC UNITEd Coalition

  • UNITE an acronym for an Eastern Kentucky regional initiative meaning Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education. The focus of the UNITEd student organization to raise awareness about drug addiction in order to change community norms regarding drug abuse. Members of the club all agree to help build a safe, healthy, and drug-free community.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)

  • The purpose of PTK is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, PTKprovides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. Outstanding PTK students at HCTC are nominated each year for the All-Kentucky Academic Team. Hazard Community and Technical College has two chapters:

Student Government Association (SGA)

  • The purpose of SGA is to develop student leadership that encourages participation in addressing student and college concerns. SGAserves as a conduit to stimulate communication and cooperation among students, faculty and staff. SGA promotes student life and co-curricular participation of students at HCTC through the planning and coordination of campus activities.
